The Minister-designate for Communications, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has stated that work is underway to improve internet connectivity in all universities through the provision of Wi-Fi.
She made this known in Parliament during her vetting by the Appointments Committee Wednesday, 1st February, 2017.
Responding to a question posed by the Minority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, on what she would do to improve Internet availability on the campuses of various universities, Hon. Owusu-Ekuful said:
“Work is even underway to make all our universities at least Wi-Fi zones so that all our students would have access to free Wi-Fi on the campuses…it is something that we just need to find out who is going to pay the cost of providing those services. And government is committed to doing that. I think it is in our manifesto and so, it’s something we would give effect to.”
She also indicated that her outfit would work to provide e-books so as to improve access to reading materials and reduce the cost incurred to purchase hard copy books.
