Volta Region Students Association, VORSA-Legon held its annual awards and handing over dinner at the University of Ghana pool side on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
The program was attended by prominent voltarians including chiefs, honorable members of parliament and senior lecturers from the University of Ghana as well as entrepreneurs; Honorable Emmanuel K Bedzra, Togbe Adzatekpor II, Prof. Buame , Mr, Rosckson Dogbegah Mr Diabo, Honourable Esinam Offei, Edmond Kombat, Edem Agbana and many other past executives of vorsa.
Speaking at the program through honorable Emmanuel k. Bedzra, Member of Parliament for Ho West constituency and chairman For Government Assurance Committee, The Speaker of Parliament right honorable Edward Doe Adzaho could not hide his joy to be one of the guest at this year’s ceremony. He admonished students to foster the spirit of hard work, togetherness and understanding since these values are key to our forward march as a country. He however did not mince words in lamenting on the level of apathy among female students towards the association and tasked the new leadership to work hard to bring more women on board. He also pledged his support for the VORSA end of year voluntary teaching program.
Mrs Esinam Offei, speaking on the theme “The Role of Youth in Nation Building”, advised the students to discover their identities and blend effectively their training received both in school and at home for a holistic development. She challenged the students to do something no matter how small the capital is, citing koko king as an example. The Assembly Member ended by cautioning students to be honest, trustworthy and impactful wherever they find themselves
The new President, Mr. Gilbert Fosu-Nyekodzi on his part, made known that VORSA is a non-profit and non-political association that seeks to give back to society and impact lives. This, the members have been doing through vacation teaching, homecoming and a host of others. He pledged the willingness of his administration to serve the association diligently. He also outlined his vision for the association and appealed to all and sundry to help them achieve the vision.
Awards and certificates were presented to outstanding members of the association.The entire program was preceded by an interactive session where students deliberated on matters relating to their welfare and interactions on campus.
