A team of SRC executives on Thursday 11th June, 2015 paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the Former President of the republic of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufour at his residence. The team led by the SRC President was made up of nine student leaders Including the SRC President ( Davis Ohene Fobi), SRC Vice President ( Michael Dugbater), SRC General Secretary ( Felicia E. Agyei), SRC Treasurer ( Perry Johnson), Acting SRC Women’s commissioner ( Bettina Aneffi), Acting Programs and Project Committee Head ( Nana Agyemang), Acting Deputy Programs and Projects Committee Head ( Felix Afriyie Agyemang), Acting Welfare Committee Head ( Mustapha Razak), and Acting Deputy Publications and Informations Committee Head ( Kwesi Paul Ajiro).
They were warmly welcomed by the former President on arrival after which the SRC President explained to the former President that their reason for paying such visit was to interact,learn and tap from his leadership skills as a Senior State Man of the Republic of Ghana.
The former President expressed how excited he was with young students who want to learn the steps of their elders especially when climbing the ladder of leadership. He then, shared his life and leadership experience coupled with how far he has come in life. He hinted on his Foundation’s project on University of Ghana campus and shared with the team how far they have come as a Foundation after the SRC President inquired about it. He further stated that the project will be the heartbeat of the university when completed.
He used the opportunity to explain further to the SRC Executives about the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation and their mission, which he stated as “Leadership, governance and development.” To him, “good leadership leads to good governance which eventually breeds development into the society for the collective good of the people.” he added.
He finally advised the team to be focused on whatever dream they have, lead selfless lives and always have the people at heart explaining that all leadership requires is selflessness after which he promised an alliance of the John Agyekum Kufuor foundation and the UG- SRC in the near future.
The team also thanked the former President for finding time amidst his busy schedules to share leadership thoughts with them.
