As part of the Sports Directorate’s initiative to increase and whip up interest in sports, recreation and physical activities on campus, the UniversDSC_0944ity of Ghana Sports Directorate has increased assistance to the Halls by 150% from GH ¢2,000.00 to GH¢5000.00

Last year, the Sports Directorate supported the Halls with an amount of GH ¢2,000.00, but this year’s support increased to GH¢5000.00 which comprised GH¢ 3,000.00 cash and GH¢2,000.00 worth of sports equipment.

At a meeting with all Hall tutors on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, the management of the Sports Directorate presented sports equipment ranging from jerseys, bibs, cones, basketballs, footballs and rackets to all 15 Halls.

Speaking to the Assistant Registrar, Mrs. Regina Afari- Boateng, she said the reason for such support is to motivate and increase participation in the Halls since they are the hub that feeds the various university teams.

In an interview with Dr. John K.M Kwamu (Sports Tutor, Alex Adum Kwapong Hall) he said there has been a huge transformation at the Sports Directorate and that this has come at the right time to motivate and assist the halls to bring out their best when it comes to sports.

Hall Tutor of Elizabeth Sey Hall, Mr. Kwame Adum Kyeremeh further reiterated that

“this initiative is in the right direction and it’s good to have the University support us with these sports equipment”.

Aside the numerous praise and necessity of the initiative mentioned by most hall tutors, this is what Jamal Appiah – Kubi (Valco, Sports Secretary) had to say.

“First and foremost, I will say a big congrats and thank you to the management of Sports Directorate for such an initiative. Having been in this school for six years now, I think this has been one of the best initiatives from the Sports Directorate.

DSC_0911Summing up, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Director of Sports reassured the management of the various Halls that this falls within the strategic initiative of the Sports Directorate to promote sports, recreation and physical activities among students in the University of Ghana. He promised that such initiatives of promoting sports by the Sports Directorate will be extend to all sections of the university community.
