This has been an election semester for most tertiary institutions.With the latest trend being electronic voting,This has been without the usual controversies and scandals.With University of Education Winneba, and University of Cape Coast leading the way, we are yet to see the true winner of the University of Ghana SRC elections after Mikdad Mohammed leveled rigging allegations against the Electoral commissioner and Davis Ohene Fobi .The KNUST SRC elections which was scheduled to come off On 1st MAY, 2015. From 8:00am to 5:00pm didn’t take place as planned. So what will become of Student’s welfare next semester? Will the school step in and appoint interim executives ?
KNUST in the past has been previewed to strong student leaders/aspirant who take advantage of legal systems to resolve electoral dispute. This year is no different,a set disgruntled aspirants claimed they have been robbed of their chance to contest and be voted for.His co-SRC aspirants have had weeks of campaign and preparation with them just having about a week or two to put their campaign in motion.The aggrieved aspirants set to question the credibility of the vetting process .Candidates, Kofi Adabor, Stephen Opoku Nsiah and Sylvanus Olympio and their counsel argued that the electoral process was interfered by the Dean of Students and the independence of the Electoral Commissioner has been compromised.Therefore resolved to put an injunction on the election.
