A New and Unique Brand of Beauty Pageantry Launched at Legon

On Friday, 20th February, University of Ghana campus came alive with the official launch of the maiden edition of Miss Elite Legon, organized by ML Events GH in collaboration with the UG SRC Womens commission (WOCOM).

The focus of Miss Elite Legon is; the use of beauty and intelligence to positively impact lives in society. It is an inter-hall competition open to all students on campus.

The launch was held between Akuafo Annex B (gonja) and Sarbah Annex A. Some activities that marked the launch include; a fashion show where the contestants exhibited their talents in modeling; music performances by popular artistes including KG, Cedi dog and Luther; and an after party at the T-LOUNGE in East Legon.

The fashion show received a sizable crowd with students coming in from various halls to cheer on their favourite contestants. KG’s music performances were especially more entertaining as his two female dancers did not disappoint with their twerking and grinding; two things a lot of students look forward to when they attend such events.

Few minutes before the launch was over, students from AU Hall (pent) stole the show with their roaring engines and screeching tyres at nearby gonja in a bid to hype a party. They were however met with the usual rowdiness and vandalism of the gonja boys as sachets of water were thrown at them amid chants.

The after party was not patronized by many. However, the few who attended it did a good job of ‘happying themselves’ to make it worth their while.

Generally the event was a success as Mr. Odum from ECG did not pay us a visit. The grand Finale is scheduled for the 27th of March, when Legon is expected to crown one of the contestants as Miss Elite for the first time.
