LOPA Legon, a campus based pressure group at University of Ghana earlier this semester organized a seminar to appraise the performance of the Esinam Seade led administration and scored them a gloomy 23.97%. The head of Intelligence Committee Hon. Prince Avornorkadzi was in attendance and promised a reply from the SRC.
In an open forum held by the executive officers of the SRC Friday evening, UGFILE reporter, Oswald Azumah posed the question of the stand of the executives on LOPA’s report. Vice President, Richmond Dompreh stated emphatically that, the report was misinformed and if the leadership of LOPA had contacted them before compiling their documents they could have presented a much more informed report to students. He stated their LegTube policy as an example, where LOPA scored the SRC 15% “for any efforts made toward its realization”. He said in his explanation that, LegTube is part of the university management’s policies but has hit some challenges like copyright issues and they could do very little about it and that if LOPA had consulted them(executive officers), they could have been enlightened on issues.
The President, Esinam Seade buttressed her vice by saying student activists should know the right channel to seek for information but said she had no problem with a group like LOPA whose aim is to seek accountability from leaders, just that it should be done with decorum.
A representative of LOPA who was present at the program responded by saying they did reach out to the SRC executives but could establish any contact with them.
Meanwhile preparations to handover power to Daniel Otting Awuah, SRC President elect and his team are expected to commence soon.
