The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghan, Professor Ernest Aryeetey has revealed that students who work hard will be awarded the first class degree.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Radio Univers 105.7, the Vice Chancellor addressed issues arising from his tenure as vice chancellor over the past five years.
The Vice chancellor stated that the intention behind the introduction of the grading system was not to make it difficult for students to get an A. He explained that first class degree must reflect the best students. It is therefore necessary that the grading system is made such that data will be distributed normally.
Below are some quotes from the Vice Chancellor during the interview
Prof.Aryeetey on the grading system and its class structure
“If we continue to do what we are doing, a third class from legon can compete with any other class from any university”
“Students must think about what impact they can make rather than putting pressure on management to change the grading system”
“First class must reflect the normal distribution”
Prof.Aryeetey’s response to the question about the fact that 3.0 CGPA may not breed the best leaders especially when some fine leaders in history never received education:
“When you want to justify mediocrity, you can always find examples to justify”
If you work and do well we will give the first class to you Happily-Prof.Arryeetey”
Prof. on whether the University is considering organizing elections for students ie provision of software
“we haven’t thought about that. The philosophy is to give students a leeway in the organization of elections to avoid the thinking that management is trying to influence the elections.
Prof.Aryeetey on intrusion of political parties into student politics
“Do we want to destroy our university simply for political gain”
Prof on meal plan
“We have done everything that needs to be done to ensure that it comes on.
We will do it only if we have students’ endorsement”.

Prof. Aryeetey On utilities
“Now the ministry says it will no longer pay for this directly, the ministry announced to the world that we use utilities of 14million but failed to tell the world that we were given 97,000 last year. .. is it fair that those in the traditional halls don’t pay for utilities while those at the new halls pay.
If government says it won’t pay, someone must pay”
If we have to find 14 million cedis to pay for electricity every year, there are many things we do in support of student development that we have to suspend, ….meaning we have to spend less on students dorm, we have to spend less on library…
Prof.Aryeetey on Vandalism and processions on campus
“I was never involved in the ponding of students when I was a student because I did not believe in it. Students charging and making a nuisance of themselves on campus is not acceptable.”
Prof. on Security
“The main challenge is finding the resources to pay them as well as finding people with the right credentials to recruit them. Technology must be introduced to allow better coverage of what happens on campus”.
Prof on Biometric gate
“It would have been in the interest of the residents of the Hall. We would have seen how best to regulate entry and exit into the Halls”

Prof.Aryeetey on the threat by VC Ghana to cut down admission to Public Universities
If we have to find 14 million cedis to pay for electricity every year, there are many things we do in support of student development that we have to suspend, ….meaning we have to spend less on students dorm, we have to spend less on library…
