Executive member of the National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) and President of the Nigerian Students Association in the Accra Institute of Technology, Chigozie Ifeanyichukwu Alex, has debunked allegations that the All African Student Union (AASU) has suspended the National Association of Nigerian Students from partaking in the activities of the Union.
Earlier publications indicated that AASU has suspended NANS in accordance with Article VI of the union’s constitution. The Union’s executive committee decided to suspend the National Association of Nigeria Students for continually dragging AASU’s name to disrepute. The disciplinary measure comes as a result of the activities of NANS in awarding, attempting to award or involvement in awarding some unsuspecting prominent Nigerians falsely in the name of AASU.
Beneficiaries of this act of the National Association of Nigerian Students included personalities in academia such as the former of Vice Chancellor at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Professor Ositadinma Nebo and the Rector of the Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Margaret Ladipo. Other awardees include Bode George, Chief George Iyobosa Edebiri, Prof. Olusegun Adewoye, Dr. Ado Muhammad and Barrister Simon Yakubu Arabo,
Meanwhile, speaking on Radio Univers’ morning show, Campus Exclusive, the Executive member of the National Association of Nigerian Students stated that his outfit is yet to receive any letter from AASU concerning the suspension. According to Mr. Chigozie, NANS is fully functioning and urged members of the Association to ignore the rumors on the suspension.
