We Have Glorified Corruption- Dr Kandeh Yumkella

A  former UN Under Secretary-General, Dr Kandeh Yumkella, has bemoaned the glorification of corruption in Africa.  “Politics matters; it is politics that gives you your leadership…If you have the wrong leader, it will be corruption…we celebrate the corrupt. We see them as heroes…we have glorified corruption,” he asserted.

He made these critical remarks at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana where he delivered the first part of the 2017 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lecture Series on Tuesday( 21st March, 2017). This year’s lecture is under the theme: “Africa: A continent of Hope, Opportunity and Transformation.”

Dr Yumkella stressed that there is the need to fight corruption. He further stated that Afica’s transformation hinged on the alignment of the 4Ps( four Ps): Politics, Public Policy, Pricing and Public-Private Partnerships.

He will deliver the other part of the lecture tomorrow( 22nd March, 2017.)
