Theatre is one of the trending arts in GH today. It is not surprising that most young people have lately been caught in this creative frenzy; bringing life to the stage. The days of contemporary theatre are here!
One ‘juju man’ of a writer, Kobina Ansah, has gone down a similar lane with his high-voltage comedy ‘This Family Is Not For Sale: Season 1’. According to the satirist, this play, unlike most plays around, is a serial one and this is the first of such series.
‘This Family Is Not For Sale: Season 1’ tells the story of The Abbans; a family of eight; almost each of them having their own kind of skeleton in their cupboard.
The “only master” of the family, the very tech-unconscious Mr. Abban, a retired footballer, aside the headache his always-losing team gives him, has to curb the tension in his home; from poverty, joblessness, to even stolen identity. Mind you, his sexagenarian wife, wants to keep up with trends, and rebukes anyone who thinks she’s old
His first son returns from the States as a medical doctor who doubles as the GM of the West Minnesota Hospital, though he’s actually only a GM (general mortician). His second son, a “self-styled Archaeology graduate”, is striving to mutually benefit from a yet-to-be marriage to a professor’s daughter, hence, doesn’t even mind trading his surname for that of the lady’s, after marriage.
Mr. Abban’s only daughter has two master degrees and currently pursuing a third, yet can’t put “a decent meal that can’t be mistaken for poison” on a table, without her cookbook. The “domestic executive officer” (houseboy) in this home tries all he can to change the economic status of the home; even if it means winning lotto.
Mr. Abban’s grandson, Little Nana a.k.a Skirt, a “Chinese Skirt”, is so brilliant that in class, he always places second… but from the bottom… and attends every private extra classes there ever is, even P.E. Aso, the maid, is in love with the houseboy.
Kobina Ansah has close to a decade writing experience tucked to his sleeves. His unique writing style, which is not restricted to a particular genre, has endeared a lot of readers and writers alike to him. The genius that he is, he does all genres of literature; from prose to drama and has become a resounding brand as far as good writing is concerned.
He writes often on many prestigious platforms, especially The Mirror, and loves to inspire the youth. Manning his communications company, Scribe Communications, the 26 year old Chief Scribe insists, “I love to inspire my world with my juju. My ink is my juju!”
He is well known for his versatile style but revered particularly for his mastery over humor. The deftness with which he catches the attention of his readers is mysterious. His piece ‘Why Komla Dumor’s Ghost Haunts Me’ went viral!
“I don’t want to be ordinary. I always want to be noted not for the rules I obeyed, but the ones I broke! That’s particularly why I went in for this serial #ThisFamilyIsNotForSale as opposed to the usual ‘one-time’ plays around,” the daring British Council marketing communications consultant hinted. “The brain can do more than just gossiping. I prefer to use mine to the maximum. I choose to be creative.”
He studied nothing close to the arts. He has a degree in Biochemistry. “I am weird, I know.” Koby, as he’s affectionately called, doubles as a Biology teacher in St. Roses SHS, Akwatia- Eastern Region.
