PRESS RELEASE (23-10-2016)
UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF GHANA(USAG)
USAG PLEADS WITH THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF GHANA TO CONSIDER DISQUALIFIED POLITICAL PARTIES AND INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES WHOSE GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION CAN BE PARDONED.
Electoral processes and Elections make a nation and can also collapse the foundations of any country when some sensitive Clauses and Constitutional Instruments are not wholly honoured.
Lately, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has remained the topical item in the media, not fully for its goodwill and impact but the disqualification of the Presidential Candidates of some political parties and independent candidates.
As leaders of the University Students Association of Ghana,we officially plead with the Electoral Commissioner and her Subordinates to reconsider their reasons for the disqualification of some Presidential Candidates and reinstate them.
As a Commission in charge of elections,we believe that you are not oblivious of the human emotions, sentiments and passions attached to elections by such key stakeholders,in order to prevent any form of potential pandemonium, conflagration and mayhem, please choose the Peace,Tranquility and Oneness of the country over these clauses which were not fully fulfilled by the said Candidates, hence their disqualification.
Inversely, some are calling for court injunction, and others have also inaugurated an insult spree agenda, which also sounds volatile, and can spark any form of violent impasse to dilute our envious democratic credentials as a country, because of reasons and clauses which could be avoided.
Finally,we plead with the EC once again,to re-consider her decision, and choose our peaceful co-existence as a country over pardonable errors,to safeguard our peaceful Ghana from any form of anarchy and chaos.
WE ARE ALL INVOLVED IN BUILDING OUR MOTHERLAND!!!
