The University of Ghana, Legon, today the 18th of April 2016, outdoor-ed the recently completed main entrance into the university. The entrance which is directly opposite the Legon main police station saw renovation works over a period and was formally commissioned today in a short ceremony.
In attendance at the ceremony was the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ernest Ayeetey. In a short speech he gave, he commended Mr. Joe Kusi, the contractor for a good job done and said it is his expectation that the new entrance would ease access to the university and reduce pressure on the existing entrances.
The Public Affairs Manager of the University, Stella Amoah in a speech, said the entrance will like all other entrances except the Okponglo entrance, run on an electronic gate and would be expected to work between the hours of 5:00 am to 12:00 am daily. Also, for security reasons, the new entrance would be accessible to only private vehicles with the University of Ghana electronic card. All commercial vehicles, including the ones that carry the card would have to use the Okponglo route or the other electronic access gates. Private vehicles without the card would also be denied access to the main gate.
The Head of Security of the university, Mr. Aduansah Paul said he and his boys are on the alert and would not tolerate any ill activity at the new gate or the whole academic community for that matter.
The whole academic community would be expected to make judicious use of the entrance as it directly links the over pass from Madina to the Accra-central.
