University of Ghana Business House JCR Heads to the Polls

Voting has started at the University of Ghana Business School to elect the new crop of leaders for the 2015/2016 academic year.

Compared to previous years, reports indicate an unprecedented turn out. Unlike last year where almost all portfolios went uncontested, the only portfolio that goes uncontested is the organizing secretary.

The presidency is keenly contested by three candidates namely Edith Akati from Wesley Girls High School, Evans Adanya from Peki Senior High School and Richmond Dompreh from Prempeh College- all accounting students.

The total number of registered voters according to the Electoral Commissioner of the Business House JCR Mr. Oteng Mensah Yaw is over 2,000. According to him, the register was obtained from the academic office of the school based on the number of registered students.

The elections will be conducted in an electronic mode. Mr. Oteng says the leadership preferred the electronic system over the manual citing reliability and convenience as advantages over the manual system. He added candidates tested the software with their technical men yesterday and before the start of elections this morning. The software is provided by Motes Systems. He is optimist the elections process will be smooth. ‘The election started at 8:30am instead of 7:00am due to some technical challenges. We swiftly resolved it and invited the technical men of the candidates to test the system prior to the start of elections. He are committed to ensuring a free and fair elections for the Business House JCR, Mr. Oteng assured.

Stakes are high in this election. It is rumoured Evans Adanya, resident of Commonwealth hall was a strong member of Team Mikdad while Richmond


Dompreh is said to be a staunch member of Team Fobi. Edith Akati commands following as much as her male counterparts.
