A level 100 BSc. Family and Consumer Science student, Lydia Nketia, of the University for Development Studies, Nyankpala Campus, has sustained serious injuries after she fell from the last floor of the Ladies’ University Hall.
The incident, which occurred Sunday night, was believed to have been caused by strong winds.
According to her colleagues, Lydia woke up from bed and rushed to the corridor to pick her cooking utensils since it was about to rain. Within few minutes, they saw her slip off to the ground. They quickly rushed to the scene only to find her unconscious with one leg badly injured and blood oozing out of her nose.
In an interview with the PRO of the hall, Barnabas Ampiah, he said he heard students calling out for help so he rushed to the scene to find out what the problem was. There, he was informed that the lady fell from the last floor of the building to the ground.
Meanwhile, the senior hall tutor had to carry the victim on a motor bike with the help of other students to a taxi rank for her to be conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital since the University does not have an ambulance. The health officials at the university clinic also do not work at the night; let alone weekends.
The PRO further confirms that the victim is responding to treatment and will soon be transferred to the University’s clinic. The SRC President and a few other executives were there to sympathize and give support.
