A student of the St. Paul’s SHS at Denu in the Volta region has been accidentally shot dead by a police officer in an attempt to control a student riot, reports say.
The student riot started around Friday over students’ demand for instant justice on two of their fellows who were caught in a homosexual act citi news reported.
According to the news, the students went rioting after authorities of the school refused to let them take the law into their own hands; accusing the school authorities of supporting homosexuality. They also rebelled against police control.
In the course of controlling the students, a police officer of the police team accidentally pulled the trigger leading to the sad death of one SHS one student.
According to the police PR, DSP Cephas Arthur, the police officer has been arrested and currently in police custody.
As at now, the school has been closed down temporarily for police investigation and resolution of the issue before the students will be called back to continue their academic work.
