Schandorf Ayirebi Acquah, the candidate tipped to win the 2017 UG-SRC elections at the start of the race has been left with no option but to concede defeat after the Electoral Commissioner, Godwin Nyamador declared the results yesterday (20th April, 2017) at the SRC union building.
Schandorf and his running mate, Asante Clinton who were perceived to be a strong force in the election came third with an abysmal 4.7% after Otting Daniel, aka Levels and Sylvester Amoako who polled 47.5% and 41.7% respectively.
Dakyehene Gerald and Pascal Hayford Agbesi polled 3.1% and 2.9% to place 4th and 5th respectively.
Schandorf and Asante released their concession message on Friday morning: they expressed gratitude to God, the Electoral Commission, their supporters and everyone that helped them come this far while wishing goodwill to the Otting and Amoako who will face each other in the run off.
BELOW IS THE CONCESSION MESSAGE CHANCED ON BY UGFILE
*CONCESSION OF DEFEAT & NOTICE OF APPRECIATION.*
By means of this release, we *(Ayirebi-Acquah Derrick Schandorf and Asante Okyere Clinton)*, write to humbly and formally concede defeat in the just ended SRC polls in the face of the ascertained results, and also express our heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders whose inputs have been significant even till date.
Our resolve to serve the interest of students remains unbroken even in the face of this dull highlight. Where applicable therefore and within our means, we ✋🏽 pledge to render our quota in all matters of students struggle, activism and advocacy. Our posture now is a solemn consolidation of all our gains, experiences and valuable lessons ahead of other promising future engagements.
To our colleagues in the two-man shot, *Otting Awuah Daniel (Levels) and Sylvester Amoako K. Owusu (Sly) and their respective running mates*, we wish them the very best of fine fortune and luck. To all UG students and electorates, we humbly urge you all to jump from the grounds of apathy and participate massively in the next round of elections as well as all other student activities – the SRC is for us!
Finally, we are grateful to the Almighty God, the Dean of Student Affairs, the Electoral Commission, the General Assembly, the leadership of the SRC, our supporters, well wishers, sympathisers and all who have shown interest and expressed solidarity in this course so far. God richly reward your kind efforts and benevolent gestures.
