Nana Yaa Asantewaa Asante-Darko Wins Ama Ata Aidoo Short Story Competition

Nana Yaa Asantewaa Asante-Darko has been adjudged the winner of the Ama Ata Aidoo Short Story Competition.
The short story competition was organised by the Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy( CEGENSA) as part of its 10th anniversary celebration. The award ceremony was held at the African Regent Hotel last Saturday in honour of celebrated writer, academic and poet Ama Ata Aidoo.

Her short story, Bean Cakes, was considered the best out of over seventy entries.It talks about a young lady who resists forced marriage to an elderly man by running away from her village to the city. It was praised for its vivid descriptions and witty language.

An excited Nana Yaa commended the organisers for putting together the competition, enjoining them to make it an annual affair.
Four other writers were awarded for their stories that tackled various issues that affect females among others.

The Abibigromma Drama Group and Nana Asaase were present to thrill the audience with dramatic sketches and poetry respectively.
