On Tuesday, 17th November, 2015, Thomas Kwabena Agyapong, a level 100 student of Kumasi Polytechnic, met his untimely death in a heroic feat at around 2:00 am when armed robbers who attacked his apartment shot him.
Thomas lived in a rented apartment at Ayigya in Kumasi, along with other students.
According to reports, Thomas, upon hearing screams for help from another room in the apartment, rushed to the aid of those crying out. Unfortunately, armed robbers who were attacking his fellow residents shot him in the throat as they saw him approach.
The robbers, after their horrendous act, run away and students rushed Thomas to the KNUST hospital, in a pool of blood.
He passed away shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
Security in student hostels in Kumasi is an alarming issue as students are constantly being terrorized by armed robbers. The situation at UDS is no different and day in day out, students risk getting shot at in robbery attacks that usually end up being fatal. Unfortunately no major move has yet been made by the National Security or university management to help curb the situation.
Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
