H.E. J.D. Mahama on Tuesday afternoon made a visit to his alma mater, the university of Ghana to do a book reading at the Institute of African Studies.
The program was part of a book launch and tour he began in 2012 before the sudden demise of his boss, former president JEA Mills and he had to take over manning of the country. The book “My First Coup D’ Etat” traces the ex President’s life from his infancy and life after the overthrow of the government of the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah(a government his father was a minister in)to his adulthood.
The event was organized by the Department of English, University of Ghana and the New York University as part of courses being offered by their students this semester. What was meant to be a private program was however flooded with members from the entire university, the public and the press. The former president in his reading stated reasons for writing his autobiography and explained to the students the style he adopted, which was a mixture of simple language, humor and thrill with little or no fiction.
After his reading, the former president interacted with his audience and did a much purchased book signing after which he departed with a lot of praise singing from members of his former hall of residence, Commonwealth hall.
