Former Secretary of the University of Ghana SRC, Janet Maame Serwaa Arkorful-Awotwe became a victim of gory circumstances after she was ruffled by a knife wielding robber on the dawn of Friday, 11th January, 2019 at her residence at Baatsona, Spintex road.
Narrating the ordeal on her Facebook timeline, the former nursing student, popularly known as “the flower girl” said the marauder walked into her bedroom at around 4:20am and requested for all her money after turning on the lights in the room. Overwhelmed by the terror, she willingly handed to him $600 dollars, GH₵400.00 cedis and some uncounted notes in her purse.
Unsatisfied by his loot, the attacker then reached for her phones and instructed her to disable the passcode on her iPhone; a request the victim said she honoured without resistance. In order to gain absolute ownership of the iPhone, the attacker further instructed Maame Serwaa to sign out of her Apple ID. According to her, even though she was yielding to his demands, owing to the fear, she forgot her password at that point and this infuriated the determined robber. For her inability to recall the password, the attacker then threatened to scar her with his knife and leak her nudes on social media if he found any on the phone.
The victim, terrified and battered said she had no nudes on her phone and had sincerely forgotten the password as well. At this point, fiercely wielding his weapon, the hoodlum ignored her pleas and explanations and forcefully took naked shots of her and fled the scene afterwards ; leaving Maame Serwaa mesmerized and despaired.
The attack on the former student leader is the second of its kind, after former SRC President, Esinam Afi Seade was also robbed in her absence after handing over in 2017. The perpetrators of that act made away with valuables including a MacBook, a laptop, some foreign currency notes and jewellery etc. On the 26th of December last year, former JCR president of Legon Hall and journalist at Citi Fm, Duke Mensah Opoku also recounted on his Facebook timeline how he was pounced on by two black donning young men, one wielding a gun and another threatening with a dagger. The two according to him pushed him down and stripped him off his money, wallet, iPhone 6s, IDs and other assets on his way to work.
Maame Serwaa, who has been staying abroad for sometime now has since reported the incidence to the Baatsona police command for onward investigations to commence. She has also cautioned her colleagues and citizens in general to learn from her experience and exercise more alert and be extra minded about their personal security. In recent times, the victim has been described as one of the distinguished secretaries in the timelines of the University of Ghana SRC.
