All efforts to get the 2015/2016 SRC elections of the University of Ghana annulled by the opposition members of Fobi seems futile as David Ohene Fobi has finally been sworn in into office as the SRC President this evening in spite of the ongoing petition at the high court of Ghana and the Judicial Board of the University of Ghana.
This year’s elections is one of the most fiercely contested with a lot of scandals involving political parties in Ghana and old executives of the SRC itself. The scandals alleged the ruling party the National Democratic Congress(NDC) to be financing Mikdad Mohammed and David Ohene Fobi by the New Patriotic Party(NPP) which became the fight of the NPP and the NDC.The developer of the software used for the electoral process was also arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations for allegedly manipulating the software to get results in favour of the winner(Fobi). This suspicion made Mikdad petition the Judicial board for the results of the elections to be probed.
The earlier news before the swearing in as reported by ugfile also had it that the immediate past President of the SRC Joshua Dogbe who has been seriously involved in the scandals as supporting Mikdad Mohammed(contested Fobi) had said “I will not swear him in” which is opposite a ruling by the Judicial Board. People had started to question the intentions of the out-gone president.
But in all the twists and turns of events though not ended has for the time being Master David Ohene Fobi sworn in with an ongoing petition and will if nothing unexpected happens take charge of the affairs of the students administration of the University of Ghana for the next academic year.
Ugfile will continue to bring you unfolding events and happenings after the swearing in.
