‘LOPA LEGON MOVEMENT’ a pressure group based on University of Ghana campus yesterday, 16th February 2017 held a lecture at the SRC Union building conference room to review the policies of team ESIDOM, that is the policies they presented to University of Ghana student electorates before assuming office as an administration flowing their victory.
The overall percentage awarded the SRC so far by the LOPA LEGON MOVEMENT is 23.97%. This was arrived at after taking all the campaign promises team ESIDOM made to students and assessing them one after the other.
A summary of their report is below.
Promise to improve upon the existing public address system and projectors in lecture halls = 0%
Promise to introduce LegTube, which will have all lecture visuals uploaded there, since no credible information was gathered to that effect and no evidence of it available they awarded 15%
Promise to solve the problems students face with UGRC results =5%
Promise to push for police patrol on campus = 5%, since no evidence of that is seen they awarded that for any effort made
Provide logistics to campus security = 0%
Work on installation of street lights = 80%
Sensitizing students on thorough security issues = 5%
MEDICAL AND HEALTH
Promise to provide first aid box in all halls of residence = 0%
ENTERPRENUESHIP AND INNOVATIVE SRC
Provide internship opportunities, exit strategy and entrepreneurial fairs = 50%
Commitment to UGSRC Hostel project = 95%
Provide study shelters for
Strengthen the Public Relations Arm of the SRC = 90%
Revamping SRC website = 5%
Sensitize students on the UG mail = 0%
Introduce ‘meet the student series’, where SRC executives go to each hall to hold open forums = 0%
Formation of ‘alliance of course reps’ = 100%
Ensuring all electrical faults on campus that cause blackouts on campus are fixed in a timely manner by ECG, this policy was deemed not gradable because there has been no such persistent blackouts on campus
A special report was then given on the power plants
Work to improve water service delivery in residential halls and lecture halls = 0%
Ensure proper sanitary conditions at all food joints and restaurants = 5%
Re-introduction of the SRC shuttle system to provide shuttle services at a cheaper cost = 0%
Work to ensure all faulty routers are replaced and WiFi access is increased = 55%
Building a rapport between SRC and the university sports council to address problems facing the sector = 45%
Building a strong relationship with debate society and helping in their activities = 80%
STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Partner with students with special needs office for the erection of sign posts to aid in their movement = 5%
Advocate for designation of zebra crossings to aid their movements = 5%
Ensuring that all facilities on campus are disability friendly = 0%
KORLE BU CAMPUS
Ensure the renovation of all reading rooms at the Korle Bu campus in conjunction with the student leadership of the campus = 0%
Making available to students buses of the SRC to convey them to and fro in times of emergency like the TEWU strike = 0%
Holding some programs of the SRC week celebration on the Korle Bu campus, on the proposed program no activity is scheduled to take place there therefore they awarded 0%.
All these categories put together, LOPA LEGON awarded the ESIDOM administration on the work done per their campaign promises, 23.97% for the first half of their administration being over 180 days since their assumption of office.
