Disqualified UG Treasurer Aspirant Heads to Court

Disqualified University of Ghana SRC Treasurer aspirant Torsu Alfred has filed a suit at the SRC Judicial Board challenging his disqualification from the race.

Vetting for the 2016 SRC Aspirants took place on Monday, April 4. The Electoral Commission had through the Constitutional Instrument to be used in this year’s election increased the pass mark from 60% to 70%. Torsu Alfred was disqualified by the commission for failing to meet the pass mark after vetting on Monday;Torsu had 67.44% .

Speaking on Accra based Radio Univers this morning, Torsu revealed that he had on Tuesday filed a suit at the SRC Judicial Board challenging his disqualification. The Judicial Board was however, yet to call for the first hearing.
The disqualified aspirant also believes some members of the vetting panel had something against him

“…when you look at the demeanour of some of the members of the panel, you could see that they had something against me. Someone asked me about a personal quarrel I had with one JCR President”, he said.

Torsu further added that he was surprised when he heard the results
“I didn’t believe, I heard it from a friend”.
