The students of the University of Ghana Economics Students Society (UGESS) have been advised by a Senior Lecturer of the department of economics; Dr. William Baah- Boateng to be competitive enough to secure a place in the very limited space available in the labour market. ” The economy of Ghana is not expanding fast enough to absorb the increasing number of graduates entering the labour market.” This he says has led to a keen competition among labour for a place in the job market. He however thinks that the competitive nature has made it important that job seekers add value to themselves in other to be able to compete.
Dr. Baah- Boateng was addressing the students of the members of UGESS at ”The student’s time with lecturers”of the UGESS week celebration on graduate unemployment.
Dr .Baah- Boateng therefore stated that for students to add value to themselves they have to go the extra mile to read other things that are not in the normal university curricular.
Also prominent at the program were other lecturers in the department and the head of department Professor Peter Quartey who added that jobs can be found in the economy though very limited but needs graduates who are fully groomed and has the character and commitment to take up those jobs.
Participants were amazed at the revealing truths that the lecturers told to them.
