A year ago, the excitement of the Elections (2014 SRC ELECTIONS) was at a low probably due to the fact that the most enviable portfolio, S.R.C President, had Mr.Joshua Dogbe as the sole candidate. The 2013 SRC Elections was keenly contested as the one preceding it. The position of S.R.C President was contested for by Eric Edem Agbanna (Eventual winner), Dinko Hanaan Dinko and Michael Adjei Darkwah. That of 2012 had Edmond Kombat, Obed kumi and Alfred Tani Kwame going head to head for the same portfolio.

Voter turnout
Voter turnout over the years has been inconsistent. Some attribute this to the decline in the competitive nature of the elections due to the introduction of the 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average requirement which was introduced about four years ago. Article 30 clause 1(b) of the SRC constitution states “He has attained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 as at the time of filing his nomination”. The 2012 election won by Edmond Kombat had a voter turnout of 4,705 with 3,030 representing 64.40% of votes cast going in favor of Kombat. The 2013 elections won by Edem Agbanna had a voter turnout of 5,517 with Edem gaining 2,888 votes representing 52.36% of votes cast. The 2014 elections which had a sole candidate as stated earlier recorded a turnout of 3,634 with Dogbe gaining 3,246 “Yes Votes”.

The names so far
Prior to elections, the easiest way to identify prospective candidates is by seeing them around often dressed in decent African wear (now a popular political attire on campus) or formal dressing often, messages with the name of candidates below on various social media, persons who always ask your name after looking into your eyes and shaking your hands. Posters, teasers and articles among others are greatly utilized by such individuals. Some became Information Ministers relaying information only God knows where they obtain them from, where as others even go round teaching first years the school anthem and how to calculate GPA. The names “in the air” now are Kafui Agboh, Davis Ohene Fobi, Azamati Ebenezer and Mikdad Mohammed as possible candidates for SRC President. Felicia Adjei, according to information gathered intends to run for SRC Secretary with no possible contender as at the time of writing. Perry, another name flying around is reported to be interested in the Treasurer slot.
