Applications Open For Community Service Awards 2016, By Osei-Kusi Foundation And Selfless4africa Inc.

The Osei-Kusi Foundation(OKF) in partnership with Selfless4Africa have opened applications for the 2016 edition of the prestigious Community Service Awards (CSA) for tertiary students in Ghana. This is the third edition since its launch in 2014.

ABOUT THE AWARDS SCHEME

This is a community service award scheme sponsored by Osei-Kusi Foundation and Selfless 4Africa Inc. It is focused on developing young people in our communities and exposing students to community service.
The participating tertiary institutions are expected to form a team of 3 to 5 students, which must have a team name and a slogan. The scheme will encourage the youth of Ghana to believe in themselves, cultivate the spirit of volunteerism, community service and patriotism. The teams from the various tertiary institutions are expected to choose a deprived community in Ghana, research on it and present a proposal focused on developing young people in that community.

The winning team will have a package GHC 10,000 (GHC 7,000 to implement the community project and GHC 3,000 for participants of the winning team).

The first edition was won by a team from Catholic University College in Sunyani to establish a community bakery for the youth of Nankitiwa community whiles Enactus UG won last years award to implement the Hope For the Future Project which entails renovation of the occupational therapy unit of the Accra psychiatric hospital to engage cured patients in bead making.

The search is on for this year?s bold and innovative team to make an impact in a deprived community in Ghana.

CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATING TERTIARY INSTITUTION

1. Participating tertiary institutions must be based in Ghana.
2. Participants from tertiary institutions must be registered students of that university.
3. Participants must have a passion for community service and volunteerism.
4. Each participating student must attach a photocopy of his/ her student?s ID card.

PROCEDURE FOR PARTICIPATING TERTIARY INSTITUTION

Identify a community in Ghana that needs support and come up with a proposal to tackle some of the problems facing the youth in that community.
Download a community service application form from Osei-Kusi Foundation?s website (www.oseikusifoundation.org).
Complete, scan and email the application form to communityserviceawards@gmail.com.

NB: Only shortlisted teams would be invited for a training session and subsequently to present their proposal in a face-to-face presentation using PowerPoint, pictures, and/ or videos. They are to provide reasons why Osei-Kusi Foundation and Selfless4Africa should support their project.
