Various websites of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been hacked by an attacker who only referred to him/herself as Sudo.

Checks on 4 of the university’s websites at 11pm, Dec. 3rd, 2017, reveal a “Hacked” page and a seeming mockery of the managers of the sites. The affected sites include that for the College of Science (cos.knust.edu.gh), Distance learning (idl.knust.edu.gh), College of Engineering (coe.knust.edu.gh), and the Energy Center (energycenter.knust.edu.gh).

It is still unclear, the true extent of the attack, the reason behind the attack, or how soon the websites and any possibly lost or stolen data can be retrieved.

The situation is nevertheless somewhat embarrassing to the university and the nation as a whole since KNUST represents the cradle and fountain of technology in Ghana – more like our very own MIT.

We hope the concerned authorities will arrest the situation as soon as possible.
